Celebrate Spring Surrounded by 100,000 Tulips at Hampton Court Tulip Festival

Updated: Apr 7

Wander through 60 varieties of flourishing tulips in one iconic place: the Hampton Court Palace Gardens. Yes, the annual Tulip Festival is back, claiming the title of the biggest Tulip Festival in the UK! Here's a sneak photo preview.

Once again, Hampton Court's spectacular floral event greets its visitors with dozens of rare, specialist, and historic tulip varieties inspired by Mary ll's popular 17th-century collection at Hampton Court Palace.

Take a stroll around the magnificent Tudor court and relax in over 60 acres of beautiful royal gardens. Admire the sparkling fountains, glorious displays of herbaceous plants, and kitchen garden produce.

It's a unique opportunity to relax and immerse yourself and your loved ones in Henry VIII's beautiful grounds. Stroll through his courtyards to spot the astonishing flower beds and watch tulips erupt in rainbows of colours from floating vases.

Behind the gardens there are 750 acres of tranquil deer park with waterways and ponds, attracting a wide range of birds and wildlife. The generous avenues give views across Home Park to and away from the imposing palace.

Little-known facts about tulips:

  • Tulip petals are edible and chefs use them to make wine or to replace onions in some recipes.

  • In 17th-century Amsterdam, at the peak of the tulip mania, a tulip bulb was more expensive than a diamond.

  • For centuries, their perfectly symmetrical flower buds have been attached to the meaning of deep, perfect love, rebirth, and since Victorian times – charity. That’s why many charities choose it as a logo.

The Palace’s expert gardeners predict the flower beds will look their best in mid-April, so you have plenty of time to book your Hampton Court Palace tickets. Unlike previous years, there are no exclusive Hampton Court Gardens tickets so you'd have to purchase a Palace admission, but it’s a great opportunity to visit the whole Hampton Court Palace London and update your history knowledge, why not?
