UK’s one and only Vintage Poster Market Returns to London in September

Updated: Jul 29, 2022

Between 23 and 25th September 2022, Projekt Mkt’s Vintage Poster Market brings unique vintage art to one of Peckham’s most charming industrial galleries.

The 3-day pop-up will take place at Copeland Gallery in South London. Entry is £2 and the price for an original retro poster starts from just £10 and could go up to £1000+ for rare collector’s pieces. It’s an exclusive chance for Londoners to bring their walls to life with lovingly sourced antique treasures.

Harriet + Sylwia of Projekt 26 who came up with the idea of bringing together fellow vintage poster dealers under one roof, in a celebration of this unsung art medium, launched the event in 2021. Back then, 2000 people visited the event and this success turned Projekt Mkt into a biannual happening with plenty of affordable and sustainable choices for every budget.

For anybody with a love of interiors, mid-century pop culture, art, and graphic design, this is an art fair you will not want to miss. It is such a rare opportunity to browse and shop thousands of authentic vintage posters from the UK's ten leading expert dealers. All posters are originals with a distinctive character and appeal, brimming with bold graphics from the twentieth century.

Digital printing cannot compete with the rich vibrant colours or the charismatic imperfection of offset lithography on beautiful matte paper. As even the posters’ flaws emphasize the stories they tell, the gallery will become an art hunter’s paradise.

Find quirky French factory health & safety posters, iconic pop, rock, and film classics, railway and airline posters (always very popular) alongside early Soviet era Communist posters, propaganda prints from the 20s and 30s that fall into the Constructivist movement (a significant period in art history) and the bold wry wit of the Polish School of Posters.

Why buy a vintage poster?

A vintage poster is an artwork with an everlasting charm and is a thing of joy. Their rich textures, and inimitable colours are unrivalled by modern copies. Retro art is a wonderful way to add instant personality, energy, and style to a home, and, if you move, you can easily take this meaningful piece of art with you.

“An art print brightens up any tired space and makes a soulless rental feel like home” (The Evening Standard)

"You can connect to an artist, a period, a place, a product, a style, or it can work with the colour scheme of your home” (Kirill Kalinin, founder of Antikbar Original Vintage Posters)

By turning monochromatic settings into something truly extraordinaire and fun, vintage posters have the magical ability to both cheer walls and connect with individuals on a personal level.

Beyond the instant impact of the graphics, there are so many other elements to relate to. Original prints are authentic lithographs where an artist painstakingly created the mould by hand. Whether you will be discovering a poster of your favourite actor, film, band, or place, or by an artist you love – at a vintage market it’s always possible to find an antique poster that means something extra special to you.

“Why fork out for mass-produced wall art, when you could spend (less) on a rare original poster with graphic impact, retro charm, and intrinsic value.” (Caitlin Graham, Rock Paper Film)

As vintage posters were printed in strict runs for display purposes, the originals survive in limited numbers. Those that remain in circulation have often been lovingly rescued along the way without altering the patina and age of the poster. This means some highly prized designs are now extremely rare and collectible, which makes vintage posters a great investment that will go up in value over the long run.
