Mars Lands in Greenwich: Your Cosmic Adventure Awaits at the Old Royal Naval College!

Ready for a cosmic trip without leaving Earth? Buckle up, space enthusiasts and culture seekers! This winter, the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich is about to host a spectacular interplanetary guest. The celebrated artist Luke Jerram's latest astronomical marvel, Mars, will land in the iconic Painted Hall until Monday, 20th January 2025.

Following the stellar success of Jerram's previous works, Gaia and Museum of the Moon, this colossal seven-meter diameter Mars installation promises to be the grand finale of his out-of-this-world trilogy at the Old Royal Naval College. With incredibly detailed NASA imagery and a surround soundscape composed by BAFTA-winning Dan Jones, this internally lit artwork is your ticket to experience the Red Planet up close—well, a million times smaller but just as mesmerizing!

A Fusion of Art, Science, and Wellbeing

While Mars looms majestically, visitors can indulge in various well-being events designed to soothe the mind and body under the watchful gaze of our closest planetary neighbor. One of the highlights is Mars Flow: Yoga and Brunch (18th January): Start the year with a yoga session fit for all levels, followed by a delicious brunch.

For visitors who prefer a quieter experience, Quiet Hour Fridays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. provides a serene environment with reduced capacity and no sound—ideal for autistic and neurodiverse individuals.

In the Artist’s Own Words

Luke Jerram shares his excitement, saying, “As an artist, I am honored to see Mars in the spectacular Painted Hall. It provides a unique backdrop that creates a powerful dialogue between art, space, and history. My hope is that Mars will invite visitors to reflect on our place in the universe and will feel transported to its inhospitable desert wasteland and in comparison, really value our life on Earth.”
